Criminal Injury Compensation Claims

Claims for a criminal injury such as assault are handled by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).  The CICA is government funded and you must meet strict requirements to qualify for compensation. Your claim can be for physical or psychological injury and the injury can be sustained accidentally or deliberately. You must report the incident to the police.

If you are eligible for compensation you will be awarded damages in a sum dependant on the circumstances of the crime/injury. Damages may be disallowed or reduced if your involvement in the incident contributed to your injury.
